Advances in modern telecommunications are said to have a marked economic effect on people from developing nations, helping to transform small to medium -sized businesses.

While on the same breath - the internet continues to play an important part in helping to nurture these fledging markets but, as yet, it still remains an unaffordable option for too many of the Commonwealth citizens.

This formed part of the Head of the Commonwealth Queen Elizabeth the Second's message to the world while marking the Commonwealth Day yesterday.

Her message was read to President Hifikepunye Pohamba at State House Tuesday afternoon.

Queen Elizabeth the Second's message was read to President Hifikepunye Pohamba by the Acting Dean of the Commonwealth Mission in the country who is also the Indian Ambassador to Namibia, Tsewang Topden.

This year's Day was marked under the theme: Science and Technology and Societies.

The Commonwealth Day is marked on the second Tuesday of March each year.
