Kavango Governor says agricultural projects at Musese, Shadikongoro and Ndonga Linena doing well

Published: March 11th, 2010

Kavango's Governor, John Thighuru says the agricultural projects at Musese in the Kahenge constituency, Shadikongoro in Mukwe and Ndonga Linena in the Ndiyona constituency are doing well so far.

He says the projects, which mainly mill maize, benefit the communities by providing them with work and selling them maize meal at what he termed   better prices.

The Shadikongoro project alone employs up to 700 employees on both permanent and seasonal basis.

He says the projects could benefit the communities more, if the traditional authorities could avail more land.

On urbanisation in Kavango, Thighuru says following the proclamation of Nkure-nkuru as a town in 2006, his council is now targeting Divundu and Ndiyona settlements for proclamation as towns.

He says a lot of construction activities have taken place at the settlements, while houses are being constructed under the Build Together project.

To attract tourists to the region, the Regional Council has produced a regional profile, which it distributes to visitors and diplomatic missions in the country.

The Kavango regional council has also launched a website to promote the region as a tourist destination.

The Governor was speaking in an interview with NBC News and Current Affairs on the World-at-Six radio current affairs programme.
