Considerable progress made in Informal Settlement Projects at Rundu and Katima Mulilo

Published: February 8th, 2010

The Chief Technical Advisor for the Formalization of Informal Settlement Projects at Rundu and Katima Mulilo, says considerable progress has been made in the project.

James Sauramba, of the Ministry of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development, says the project is doing relatively well in terms of awareness and sensitization among communities and stakeholders.

Sauramba, however, noted that the installment of some infrastructure including water and sanitation could be hampered by some factors.

He cited the construction of water and sewerage facilities and their tendering as some of the factors that may delay the completion of the project.

Sauramba says the design of water and sanitation infrastructure started only recently after securing the tender authorization of their construction, at Mahohoma informal settlement in Katima Mulilo.

He noted that other factors that might cause a delay, includes the approval of township establishments.

Sauramba says for this reason it is unlikely that the project will be completed as scheduled.

The project is being funded by Lux Development.
