The Ball finally in Namibia - by Wesley Vries

Published: May 26th, 2010

The ball that is travelling around the world is finally in Namibia hosted by Special Olympics.

THE BALL was celebrated at the Sam Nujoma Stadium by Politicians, Celebrities, Sports Personalities and the Community alike.

The Ball has travelled in over twenty eight countries and was signed by close to 15 000 people from around the World and Namibians were among the lucky ones to see and sign it.

The Ball will be making an incredible 10 thousand kilometer journey and will proceed to West and East Africa en route to South Africa where it will be ending its journey at the opening ceremony of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Here in Namibia the day was described as a major success by Special Olympics Namibia but the highlight surely was the match between the Namibian Parliamentarians and the Diplomats.

After having swapped their suits for shorts and tekkies, the field of play was not an easy office for most of the players.

It was obvious that the Diplomats had a few days to train together as proven by the final score line.

Those in attendance were not disappointed as the two teams showed that they could also do the talking on the field of play.

The Diplomats won the game by 6 goals to 1 with the Parliamentarians immediately indicating that they would like a rematch to show that today's result was just a fluke.

Special Olympics' Charles Nyambe was a happy man and described the day a huge success.

Also present at the event was the Director of Spirit of Football, Andrew Aris who has been taking The Ball around the World.

He was delighted to be in Namibia and to be part of the day's activities.
