Along with the rest of NBC, the Corporate Communications department has involved itself in the following activities that allowed it to promote the image of the company. In its efforts to continue NBC’s popular image, Corporate Communications has arranged for educational tours of the NBC premises for schools across the country. The aim of this exercise is to make the national broadcaster accessible and inform our future leaders of Career opportunities available in the field of broadcasting.
Not only has this been the only platform to educate the youth, but also the attendance of the Gobabis, Annual Career Fair, which was held from the 27th – 29th of April 2009. This event was well attended and NBC had live radio broadcasts on National, Setswana and Otjiherero Service. This event was well organized through the offices of the Ministry of Education. More than nine different schools in the Gobabis District took part. They were well informed about the qualifications and experience needed to be an employee at the Corporation.
Another significant event of the year, was the launch of Namibia’s locally produced “family drama.” This was commissioned by the NBC jointly with the Namibia Film Commission. The launch of the family drama series took place at Maerua Mall on February 20th, 2009 and was well attended by the Honourable Minister of Information Communication & Technology Hon. Joel Kapaanda. Local actors, actresses and many more officials supported this event. This family drama series premiered that following Monday and the public appreciated yet another investment in the local film industry.
Other major highlights of corporate communications in 2008The residents of Buitepos showed their gratitude towards the NBC on December 5th. The launch of the Radio and Television transmitters took place and was attended by the Director General of the NBC, Mr. V. Kandetu, Honourable Deputy Minister, Hon. Raphael Dinyando, NBC Board Member, Mr. Col Kolokwe, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration, Hon. S. Mogotsi and local residents.
His Excellency the President of the Republic of Namibia, Hifikepunye Pohamba visited NBC in December to pre record his Christmas and New Years messages to the nation.
During December, the NBC alongside Sanlam supported the best in the local music industry by broadcasting the annual Sanlam NBC Music Awards LIVE at the Safar Court Hotel. This gave a platform to upcoming musicians to show case their talent. The awards have also opened doors for many in the music industry. The Artist of the year (Tate Buti) received sufficient media promotion after the crowning of his new title.
On December 31st, the NBC in conjunction with the City of Windhoek ensured that the nation would get together as one and do the countdown into the New Year. This was successful and secured that the celebrations were celebrated responsibly without any chaos. Local artists also had an opportunity to show case their talents and the NBC/SANLAM Artist of the year brought the nation into the brand new year. This was covered LIVE on NBC television.
The NBC has remained to have an image that the whole nation can identify with and still leads to inform, educate and entertain the public.
