In her spare time, Franlin enjoys raising the love of her life, Nevaeh. To Franlin, the 3-year old Nevaeh is a hobby, a Godly responsibility and her deepest passion in life. Hanging out with family and friends, reading and listening to music, keeping up to date with news happenings by watching news channels and reality shows, hosting friends and family at her place, going to the gym, eating out, meeting up once a month with sexy and smart ladies at the book club, ‘Oracle’ are further activities she takes pleasure in during her time off from work. And when she has a few extra hours to spare, she tries to get some sleep …although NBC and Nevaeh don’t always make that possible!

What is your philosophy in life? I don’t necessarily live by any philosophy in life. There are too many anyway. I live by my personal principles and then I leave it up to God to take care of the rest. But a gospel Afrikaans song is what makes my life worth challenging for me. “Lei o lei, o groot Jehova, Pelgrims deur U sterke Hand. Ek is swak, maar U is magtig, lei my deur U sterke Hand, Groot is hemels, Groot is hemels, voed my tot daar niks ontbreek, Groot is hemels, groot is hemels, voed my tot daar niks ontbreek”.
What made you join the NBC? It was always a dream for me to be in Journalism and always knew from school I’ll be behind the microphone or on screen one-day! I’ve accomplished both! What more can be fulfilling then reaching your goals and realizing your dreams?.
What do you love most about broadcasting? Sharing information that is pivotal to the nation. Interacting with the listener and viewer as if they were my best friends.
What was your most memorable experience at the NBC? Too many to mention. Perhaps the many debates (that many a times they ended in arguments with colleagues!) in our daily dairy meetings in the newsroom. I like debating on issues on behalf of the nation. I believe in balanced reporting and leaving it up to the nation to make up their own minds about issues. And working for NBC during the 2009 National Assembly and Parliamentary elections. Made me realize how much patience and stamina I developed over the years at the NBC.
What is your message to the public? Thanks for all your support throughout my career at NBC. It is because of your individual words of praise and encouragement through calls and stopping me on the streets, that I am the Anchor and Journalist I am today. You deserve the best. Make sure NBC provides you with nothing less by complaining out loud but also remember to give credit, where it is due. NBC is after all ‘yours’.
What are your future plans? It’s time for a new beginning after 10 years at the NBC. Let’s leave it at that for now.
